The Most Famous Canary Diamond

The biggest and most well known canary diamond in the world is Tiffany’s Canary Diamond. Yes, the very same famous Tiffany Fifth Avenue Jeweler. This particular diamond was found in the Kimberly mines in South Africa in 1877. When it was first discovered and pulled out of the mines, it weighed over an astonishing 280 carats! That weight was its “rough” weight, a term given to diamonds when they are uncut and polished. After it was cut into a stunning 90 facet diamond, Tiffany bought the diamond and so appropriately named it “Canary Diamond”. The Tiffany Diamond was the most pure and flawless canary diamond ever to be found. Let’s just hope a larger, more magnificent canary yellow diamond will be found one day.
